Chapter 29 Lund to Mansons Landing

We watered up and left Lund with all the other boats.  Endless Tymes suggested we stop and do some bottom fishing outside the restricted area.  We fished in about 200ft and I caught 2 sharks and Kay kicked all our buts with 2 nice golden eye (I call them red snapper).  A few hours later we were in Mansons Landing after dodging all the rocks at the point. What a great anchorage.  The cars along the shore was a surprise. 

We anchored in 80ft and had our friends side tied to us.  I set the anchor rode with 300ft of chain as the current and wind came up. Held with no issues. We went ashore and walked over to the clear, warm lake for a swim.  This was such a joy.  The anchorage is a bit crowed but you can find room.

Tracey from Pairadice fixed an absolutely awesome meal with grilled tuna, mushrooms and a crab sauce.  Thank you Tracey for a great great meal.

We had a relaxing evening and it gets dark a little earlier.  Tonight it was pitch black and you could see stars and the out line of a town on Vancouver Island. Tomorrow will be a sad day as the Pairadice will be separating from us to explore the rest of the island.  We will stay with Endless Tymes and start down the east side of Georgia Straits.  The plan is to stop in Ballet Bay then down the rest of the Sunshine Coast to Falls creek to sample Vancouver BC.

This was a very very busy place.  Between 11 am and noon, any boats moored for one night have to be gone!  Then the shuffling of boats begin and hordes of boats are calling in to get a spot.  This place is not really that big and the staff parks, side ties to get as many in as possible. The harbor staff were great.

This is also mile 0 for highway 101 which goes south to Mexico.

The ladies wanted a dress up night so we all actually took showers and the guys put their best on.  The restaurant, The Board Walk,  however was a hugh disappointment.  Took an hour to get our food and the service really sucked.  It's sad because this place is a gold mine and management really needs to step up here.

Chapter 28 Desolation Sound Squirrel Cove and Tenedos Bay

After surviving the rapids, we headed to Lund to resupply.  The total trip from Shoal Bay to Lund at 6kts was about 6 hours.  Kay and I have not yet been to Lund and Pairadice to the back channel of the Coopland Islands. Lots of boats take this back way and now I know why.  When we reached Lund the wind was heavy out of the NW and blowing directly into Lund Harbor.  Pairadice tried to get in to the floating docks and even with his bow and stern thrusters could make it to the dock. He made the call to head to squirrel cove.  This was the "right" call as the wind picked up even more later.

Squirrel Cove was crowded but we found room.  I now know why everyone was on the NE side.  No wind there.  Where we were anchored we got some wind which caused us to swing a lot, but the Rocna held tight. John gathered the ladies and took them to "town."  Resupplied some, at least for the next couple of days.

The next day we made the hard run of an hour to Tenedos Bay. After all this time both Pairadice and ASD have yet to stern tie.  Really!  No stern ties as of this date.  Good thing we had Chris of Endless Tymes.  He instructed us in the fine art of stern tying.  First put your anchor in deep water, back up set if possible.  Then send the wives to shore with the stern line to wrap around a tree.  Brigitte climbed the rocks like an expert. Once all set the chain would pull you forward and the stern line keeps you from swinging.  Most places like this have deep anchorages and require anchoring up hill.

This is an awesome marine park.  The water was 76f!!!  Yep we took a swim or two.  Having 3 of us together is a lot of fun.  This group we have formed have the same likes and the ladies keep us straight.  Chris from Endless Tymes is a baker and cook a loaf of sourdough on his BBQ! Oh so good. The dinners we have all had by combining stuff, well the best food you could eat.

We stayed at Tenedos for 2 days and then headed back to Lund where we are docked up for two days to resupply and have a "dress up" dinner at one of the restaurants.  Hard to believe that we will be heading home in about a week.

One thing about Desolation Sound; It is very crowded!  I have never heard so much VHF 16 traffic!
