We Have Water!!!

After work, I spent the evening replacing a water line that froze back in 2009.  For now I will only have one spigot with a hose.  Later as I am rebuilding the dock I will run water and electric down to the other side of the dock.  It is a little different having the boat at the dock as it is not protected like it was at Kalama marina.  The first of many many evenings working.

I got the electric finished and brought the Alaskan Sea-Duction down to her new home. Leaving Kalama marina was bitter sweet.  I should have water in the next few days.

A great weekend

For the first time in awhile Kay and I have worked on something that is ours.  We are both tired and sunburned, but feeling great.  Today, we burned the black berry brush and man was that scary.  We had 2 big piles and the wind came up just as I lit the first pile and it became big and very hot in just a minute or two.  Started to burn up toward the road.  We were able to get it under control and burnt the other pile.  There was an old cedar bush next to the power pole, which was also dead as the state while spraying the black berry bushes also sprayed the cedar and a nice tree, so both have to come out.  I also found the water meter and valve.  I am told the water line has a hole in it on the dock so we will see later this week.  Will also have the electric turned on, so I can get the Sea Ray down to the dock.

Well we had a get together yesterday to celebrate our new dock.  Today we busted our butts!  Had a lot blackberry brush  to take out.  We cleaned up the bank, and found the water meter. Will have the electric turned back on this week, so I can bring the sea ray to the dock.  We are so excited to start on our new home.  The dock has a lot of work to do.  The dock floats on logs.  I will be increasing the float by placing barrels under the dock and filling them with air.  Then I will be tearing the top deck off and rebuild the deck with pressure treat wood, then joining the docks together with heavy duty hardware to strengthen the entire structure.   Then I will be adding a storage building.

THE DOCK-BEGINING OF RETIREMENT

Well we close on our dock tomorrow.  Then the work begins.  The bank needs to be cleaned up and electric and water restored to the dock. I will be removing the deck off the floating logs and securing the dock all together.  Then I will be rebuilding the deck with 2x8x10 pressure treated wood, ten I will be building a storage building.  Lots of work to do, but time to do it.  This will be our future home.  No the sailboat and canoe does not come with the dock.

 Lots of dead brush to remove.  The dock is 81 feet long.

 

 

 We own half of the gravel.

 

 See all the trash in the water?  That will be gone with the first good low tide.

 It has cement stairs down to the gang plank.  Kay loves this and makes it safe to get down to the dock.

 Once all the dead brush is gone, Kay can plant flowers and bird feeders

 I got a good floating log.

This is a good piling.  We own 5 pilings.  2 of them will need to be replaced.  We will be replacing all of them with steel pilings.
