Alaskan Sea-Duction: July 2014

Kay and I took ASD down to Cathlamett earlier in the week to avoid the the croud of boats that were expected. Come they did. There were boats from Portland, St. Helens and Astoria. Several were yacht clubs from around the lower Columbia River of all sizes and makes. The weather was perfect until last Saturday evening when clounds rolled in and we had a heavy mist for a few hours.

Bald Eagle days originated from a ladies group in the 50s (?) when the bald eagle was almost gone due to DDT. They held a weekend fund raiser to help bring the eagles back. Well it cuaght on and has been here ever since. If you want an American small town event, this is it. They close down main street, venders come in selling everything from the great American hotdog to leather and of course political campains. Can't get more American than that. On Saturday at noon the big parade which was the fire and police departments, high school (Mules) cheerleaders, the mayor and County Commissioner, clowns, hot rods and of course political candidates. The Shariff can down the street in his John Deere pulling a hay wagon with campain posters all over it!

Kay found some jewlery she liked and a painting in the antique store of waves crashing over rocks and birds. She pland to put that over our bed. She showed it to Kat Evans and she said it was a picture of an angry sea! I hope not!
