This year we went to Sand Island for the 4th. Sand Island is just across from St. Helens OR. I rarely go there in the summer as the winds are out of the north and it drives wind waves for 4ft at times. Can be hard on the boat. But it was fun to watch the sheriff and state police (on their jet skis) were passing out no wake zone tickets, each worth $280. Lots of people camped out on the island and on the docks. Fun for everyone.
This last weekend we had David and Loraine at our dock and we managed to get his 50ft party boat on the inside of my dock. Little nervous as the wind caught his bow and took it to the rock shore, but no damage. We always have fun when they are around.
Saturday morning we left Dave to himself and went to Kalama for the big fill. Putting fuel on the dock. We last filled the boat in Oct. 2013 in Astoria when we brought the boat home. We took on a total of 465.97 gallons at a total cost of $1677.52.
Along with the cost, Kay lost her mom's diamond ring and I lost a sun tanning pad due to the wind. So a bad day for loosing stuff. On the way back it almost felt like we in a traffic jam at Rainer. There were fishing boats, big ships, a dredge ship, yachts from the Rainer dock and tugs. Dave was waiting on us when we got back to the dock and helped us with docking as the wind was a bit stiff.
That afternoon Dave's friend Gordon dropped by with his granddaughters. They took right to Kay and uncle Tom had popsicles for then. Later in the afternoon we BBQ some burgers, dogs and had fun with Jerry, Laura and Charlie, Linda and Dave and Loraine. Laura brought "adult cupcakes and Jerry brought homemade ice cream! All had fun and full bellies. Next weekend we are headed to Bald Eagle Days in Cathlamet. Here's the link: http://www.cathlametchamber.com/bald_eagle_days.php
This deer was only about 15 feet from the riverboat. Kay and I were fishing at walker Island.

A tug doing river duty. The ship is anchored and the tug is there just to hold the boat from swinging in the river. Seems it would be a boring job.
