St. Patty's 2014

Kay and I took the weekend off to attend the MCYC St. Patty's party.  It was a weekend with renewed friendships, good food and lots of drink!  Thursday afternoon as we were getting ready to leave, we had a strange smell in the back of the boat.  We checked everything and couldn't find it.  As I was checking the genny Kay said "You know I have smelled that odor before and it was a battery!"  I looked over the genny and noticed the top of the battery box lid had moved.  I opened it and the battery had blown up!!!  I was up until midnight fixing and cleaning. I had to finish cleaning as I knew the Coast Guard would be there and I wanted our boat inspected.  Jerry and L.J. were suppose to join us, but LJ came down sick, so they were out.  Friday morning started out foggy so our departure as delayed until around 10 AM, then it was partly sunny at 65f!

When we arrived at MCYC, there was plenty of folks to handle the lines.  I did a good job of getting the boat to the dock around other boats without hitting anything!  I was only the sixth time I had ever docked it!  That night was early turn in as I had stayed up late the night before.

Saturday was also nice with games, raffles and a fantastic dinner.  Later a band showed up and Kay and I shut the place down! Our friend Jerry also came out Saturday afternoon (we missed you LJ!)  and stayed the night.  It was good to hang out with my buddy!  He was our second official guest to stay on the ASD!

MCYC fixed breakfast for everyone and we were off heading back to the home dock with a full belly with a hangover!  It was a cold rainy with 1/4 mile visibility on the way back.  The radar was a great help as we met a ship, but the idiot was moving up river fast in the fog!  His wake shook things loose!  Made it back to the dock and Kay did a great job handling the lines.

We have dead smelt everywhere!  The birds are happy.

Genny Battery that blew up!

We were lucky the boat didn't catch fire!

Heading 41 miles up river to MCYC.  Nice day but the river is high and muddy.

  1. Thanks for sharing, looked like a good time had by all. Like your ship ready to go fishing in Alaska. Until then both of us back to work and living the dream until the ultimate one coming up.

  2. Hope this was a good summer for you both. BPA is going strong looking for my ship to come in so I can sail away as well. Went hunting for elk and deer seen a lot but none with antlers.
