Chapter 21 Ketchikan to Santa Anna Inlet

It was over 100 miles from Ketch to Wrangle.  So we had a choice, Meyer’s Chuck or a little inlet 20 miles more.  We chose Santa Anna Inlet.  After fueling up, we made our way around floatplanes, Ferries, cruise ships and fishing boats.  Man this is a busy place and we were ready for some peace and quiet.

The wind came up as we entered Clarence Channel, but we were taking it on the bow, so it wasn’t bad.  We would be turning into Ernest Sound after Meyer’s Chuck.  As we were making our way we finally saw our first whale, a humpback.  Kay grabbed her new camera and started shooting.  She got some awesome pics!  Way to go Kay.

Once we made the turn into Earnest Sound, the wind turned off and it was lake water.  It was sunny and warm.  This is what cruising is all about.  All this and a whale too….  By staying in Santa Anna Inlet, we will only have a 40 mile trip to Wrangle.  As we turned the point and headed into the inlet, there were no other boats!  We had this awesome place to ourselves.  We set the anchor in 60 feet of water and turned off the engines.  Dead calm!  We could hear birds and two waterfalls.

By afternoon it was 72f!  That is hot for here.  I sat on the bow for a while thinking how cool it would be to stay another  Just then Kay came up and asked if we stay an additional day!  This is such a magical place and we have enjoyed it a lot.  Alaska, Home Sweet h
Home.
