Still waiting

Made some new friends at Driftwood marina, Steve, Bonnie and Terry.  Still waiting.  Looks like a window may open on Friday after this big storm passes. 3" of rain predicted for Portland tomorrow.  Small craft advisory for Cape Mendencino through Thursday, but starting to lay down.  We will see.

Heading home tomorrow so I can go back to work.  Frustrated, but I know I will get her to her new home soon.

Frustration

Earlier today I got a call from my weather guy and my crew.  My weather window closed as fast as it opened.  I was hoping to make it to Crescent City by Sunday early morning, but 13-14 foot seas at 14 seconds is a bad situation.

So at this point we will wait and I will get an update from my weather guy tomorrow.  Most likely I will be paying rent at this marina. maybe for the better part of the winter waiting on a window.  Just frustrated with Mother Nature right now.

Countdown to Friday...We have a go for Launch!

Looks like this weekend is a go!  Sea will flatten out starting Friday.  Looks like I will move the boat to Sausalito on Friday, my crew will arrive that night and leave Saturday morning.  Should have good sea through Tuesday morning and if the low in the Gulf O Alaska starts to move it will affect the PNW seas starting late Tuesday.  Time to get things ready.  Am I ready?  I think so..........

Oh and I updated my MMSI information.

Didn't hurt too bad!

Took the boat to Antiach and fueled it for the first time. 426gallons@ $1656.35  Didn't hurt as much as I thought.  Kay's first ride on her new boat.  Looks like we may have a weather window starting Thursday!  Washed the tub and there is a lot of tub.  Bought Kay a carpet cleaner and she has been cleaning everything.  Starting to look really good.

Tanks are clean and we ready to take on fuel!

The fuel folks finished today and I have nice clean tanks and fuel.  They will be coming back on Sunday to make it all look pretty.  So I have a total of 200 gallons on board and I hold 600.  We will be fueling up at Antioch Marina on Monday at $4.05 a gallon!  This will hurt!  I told Kay to make sure she calls the credit card company to make sure we are making a big purchase.

I am hoping to leave on Wednsday to Sausilito, then out the gate on Thursday, if the weather improves.  I called Sausilito today to cancel our reservations for tomorrow and they told me that everyone was cancelling due to weather.  I read somewhere that there were 20 footers right outside SF bay.

Well at least the extra time will give us an opportunity to make the boat ours.  We have been cleaning and fixing stuff.  Put a new shower head in the master cabin and fixed the stove.  The micro switch was all screwed up.  Kay fixed a very nice dinner with stuffed chicken and steamed veggies.  The dishes are my duty.  Kay stated this was our first cooked meal on our yacht.  Yacht, just saying makes me feel like I am being snobby of the rich and famous, but this will be our home in the near future.....

Sharing the dock with some great classics!

Wait a minute is that my beer?  Give it back!

Weather Hold

Well we are on a weather hold until at least next Thursday.  20ft swells are not my idea of fun.  Today Duke and his lovely wife came to the boat to finish up on the two main tanks.  It took Duke over 3-1/2 hours just to cut the hole in the port tank due to the insulation.  They finally finished at 5:45.  Tomorrow they will do the stbd tank.

This extra time will give us an opportunity to get familar with the boat and its systems.  So no "Spot" update until we leave next week.

Checkout the filtering system

Duke bring in the hose to take down to the tank

Nice clean filtered fuel

Inspection hatch on the back tanks.  He will be putting a nice access cover over this.

Three filters and nasty black from the crap on the bottom of the tank.

Clean filter

Charlotte manning the pumps

Suction lines going into the port tank

Inspection plate to be installed on the stbd tank tomorrow

Completed port tank.  Duke will make a nice cover to make it look nice.

Made it to the boat and turned on the A/C

After 12 hours of driving we finally made it to the boat.  Took a while to unload the truck!  The folks we bought the boat took us out dinner.  Went to the boat and cranked the air.  This boat has 2-50amp hook ups.  I can see I will have to upgrade the dock.  Kay heads back tomorrow and I start the preparations for the cruies.  Pics to follow tomorrow.

The new Adventure begins

Packing up the truck with all the gear needed for the trip to Oakly CA.  The boat has new props and cutlass bearings, with new trim tab cylinders.  The fuel guy will finish up first of next week and I will have 4 clean tanks and filtered fuel.  When I get down there on Tuesday, I will over the next few days, I will change the oil (16qts per motor) and replace all the fuel filters, clean the boat and get her ready to go. I have a crew of 3, Jerry, Chris and me.  If we have good weather, we will depart Saturday, the 21st for Sausilito which is right under the Golden gate bridge.  Then we will leave at 2:30 AM, head out under the bridge, make a right turn and in 3-4 days be pulling into the Columbia River.  We will be running day and night putting into a marina for fuel.  I hold 600 gallons.  At least that is the plan.

As part of my gear I have a "Spot."  This is a gps tracking unit.  So if you go to my shared page starting September 17th you will be able to track our adventures.

Here is the website:

I will post pics as I can, but cell service will be spotty as we will be about 17 miles off shore.  Have fun tracking and put in some comments if you can figure out how it works.-Tom and Kay soon to be official yacht owners!

Reasons you need to do a survey before buying a boat!

Well good and bad day for the new boat.  Both inspectors showed up on time and went to work.  These two guys have been in the business for a very long time.  The hull inspection went well and only minor things were found.  The engine inspector also could not find anything wrong other than a loose motor mount.  Engines were ran up and both inspectors smiled.  Both stated the engine and generator were in "like new condition.  We took the boat out and ran both engines maxed out and got a reading of 2750.  Max is 2800.  The engine guy was busy taking measurements and checking for leaks.  Everything checked out and we headed back to the marina.

We said goodbye to the engine guy and he stated the engines were in good working order.  Then the boat was hauled out.  The owner and I saw the same thing at the same time.  The props were bent and the zincs on the port shaft were jammed up against the cutlass bearing.  The Stbd trim tab was broke off at the cylinders.  The owner was not happy as this yard had installed the zincs last March.

The owner was worried I would back out.  I told him so long as this stuff is fixed, then the deal is still on.  The yard will replace the zinc’s and port cutlass, any charges associated with putting the boat on the hard.  The owner will fix the props, stbd cutlass and trim tab. I am hoping we will still be able to leave on the 21st.  The fuel guy is coming out tomorrow to modify and clean the fuel tanks.  So in the end everything has worked out.  Looks like we will be the new owners.
