Chapter 15 Shoal Bay Pub to Port McNiell

This was a on night stay, although we could stayed much longer.  The views were great!  We had to negotiate one more rapid at Greene Point.  It turned out to be a non-event.  A little current and some whirlpools.  I ran over a whirlpool to see what it would do and the boat powered right through it.

We powered down Chancellor Channel to Johnstone Strait.  It was low clouds and rain, no wind.  We got lucky.  In fact there was no wind all the way to Port McNeill! There was a little current at Current Passage, but after that the current (tide) was going our way!  We had a push all the way.  Still haven't seen any whales.  We were blessed by some Pacific whited sided dolphins.  We had to turn the propane heat on in the bridge.  We also hit some fog, but that lasted about 30 minutes.

This was an 80 mile run and we were in Port McNeill in 7.5 hours.  We called North Island Marina and Steve met us at the dock and helped us tie up.  We had made it to northern Vancouver Island!  As I was getting off the boat I hear this voice Tom and Kay!!!!  It was John and Tracy of the M/V Pairadice.  We have been following each other and they are from the Portland area.  We also met Bill and Wendy from "Sea Badger."  These are all member of the Trawler Forum (TF)!  Go TF!  Then today we see Jeff and his wife of the "Irene" another TF member....

Tomorrow we make the run around Cape Caution.  This is one of two open ocean crossings and if the weather is not right, it can get nasty.

Not many pictures here as it was raining and foggy.
